Greater Manchester

Millennium Volunteers is a Government initiative for young people aged
16 to 24. As an MV you will be part of a large organisation of young
volunteers who give their time to help others, doing something they enjoy. In short, as an MV you can use what you're into to help yourself and others.

Check Out our activites page to see what we have planned for February 2006

Who can be a Millennium Volunteer?
Anyone between 16 and 24 can be a Millennium Volunteer (MV). The scheme encourages you to get involved in local issues you care about and at the same time you can gain experience, confidence and skills. You could be involved in projects such as sports coaching, environmental issues, youth leadership, music and dance. Through volunteering you can make a positive difference to your own life and your community.

Greater Manchester Millennium Volunteers
MV is a national project but there are lots of regional all over the UK
projects where young people can get involved and Greater Manchester
Millennium Volunteers is just one of those projects. We cover the
majority of Greater Manchester including Manchester, Salford, Trafford, Bury, Bolton, Tameside, Rochdale and Oldham and we have well in excess of 1000 other MV's so if you sign up you know that you are part of a much bigger team with fellow MV's from all over the place!

How can you benefit?
There are loads of reasons why you will benefit from becoming a Millennium
Volunteer:

You will gain some of the skills that employers value such as working as part of a team, learning to solve problems and developing initiative.

Those completing 100 hours will receive an award signed by the Minister for Learning and Young People.

Those who complete 200 hours of voluntary activity will receive an Award of Excellence, signed by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills. Both these Awards are fast becoming very prestigious and look excellent on your CV...they show that you are willing to work hard, help others and get the job done! This is exactly what future employers and University/College
admission tutors are looking for.

Each MV hour equates to 5 points on your Connexions Card, which can be exchanged for loads of fantastic gifts, prizes etc.

You will meet loads of new friends both at you placement and at the numerous activities that GMMV put on throughout the year.

It doesn't cost you a penny! GMMV will pay your out-of-pocket expenses and being if you are on benefits it's a great way to help others without affecting your benefits.
